
The study stands at the beginning of a project, which was initiated by the
Goethe-Instituts Max Müller Bahvan Kolkata in course of the work area "Culture and Development". Its focus is on the promotion of teaching of so-called Western (Classical) Music in Indian music schools. The feasibility study (Study A, August 2009) attempted to check and to substantiate the eecution of such a venture on the basis of the assesment of quantitative and qualitative data, which proceeds dutifully with regards to the specific cultural backgrounds and fulfils the demand according to sustainability as well. On the basis of this study three in-job training modules for 13 teachers where developed by Barbara Busch and Barbara Metzger, a module A for four weeks in Germany (Mai 2010) and module B (Juli 2010) and C (September 2010), each one week in India. All modules will be evaluated with qualitative methods as well as with Q-Methodology.

With the support of the German Federation of Music Schools a survey was done to collect informations about the choice of non-European music at German music school. Interviews and a questionnaire generated a data pool. In a second phase (autumn 2010) further data will be collected. In cooperation with Andreas Kloth (2008-2011) and Jan Leiding (2008).
