Bachelor of Music (four years)

The Idea

Studying in the Bachelor of Music programme at the University of Music Würzburg means

  • studying at an artistically, pedagogically and academically high level with a dedicated team of outstanding teachers,
  • having personal mentoring throughout the course of study, 
  • performing music with others in various ensembles,
  • taking part in the vivid musical life inside the University as well as outside in the baroque city of Würzburg,
  • being prepared for all fields of music and music educational professions.

Target Groups

The Bachelor of Music is intended for students wishing to pursue a professional career in music, and integrates the development of practical skills with theoretical and historical musical knowledge as well as educational expertise.

Course Objective

All candidates for the Bachelor of Music degree must declare a major instrument, voice or conducting as a performing medium. Any standard ensemble or orchestra instrument, keyboard or guitar may be chosen for major emphasis as well as Music Theory and Composition. The University of Music offers two main fields of studies:

  • Music Performance
  • Music Education

Course of Study

The Bachelor of Music (B. Mus) is an academic degree and requires 240 ECTS. The performance field includes not only performance specialisation in all vocal or instrumental areas, but also Conducting (Choir, Orchestra), Early Music, Church Music, Music Theory and Composition. The educational field puts emphasis on all age groups in informal learning settings.
