Due to the academic reform within the European Union member states, the German diploma will be discontinued at the University of Music, Würzburg in October, 2010. Students who apply for the entry examination for post-graduate studies will be admitted into the 5th semester only. Applications from diploma students of other German music universities will be screened and the applicants placed individually in the appropriate, current semesters.

The Musical Diploma (Diplommusikers/Diplommusikerin) (DM) is a degree programme with artistic emphasis and the option of pedagogical electives. Those students with high achievement in the programme will be admitted into the training class and can then finish with the Concert Diploma. After two semesters students have the opportunity of transferring into the master class, and upon successfully passing the exam, may finish with the Master Class Diploma. Performance courses are available for accordian, early music/period instruments, conducting (choir and orchestra), voice/musical theater, guitar, jazz, church music, piano, composition, orchestral instruments and organ.
The Music Teacher Diploma (Diplommusiklehrers/Diplommusiklehrerin) (DL) is a degree for those interested in emphasising pedagogy. The pedagogical subjects include accordian, early music/period instruments, elementary music paedagogy (EMP), voice, guitar, jazz, piano, music theory, orchestral instruments and organ.
Additional, supplementary subjects for the DM or DL include digital music production, elemental music pedagogy (EMP), instrumental or vocal arts, jazz, and ear training.
