Discontinued Programmes

Due to the academic reform within the European Union member states, the German diploma will be discontinued at the University of Music, Würzburg in October, 2010. Students who apply for the entry examination for post-graduate studies will be admitted into the 5th semester only. Applications from diploma students of other German music universities will be screened and the applicants placed individually in the appropriate, current semesters.

The Mu­si­cal Di­plo­ma (Di­plom­mu­si­kers/Di­plom­mu­si­ke­rin) (DM) is a degree pro­gram­me wi­th ar­tis­tic em­pha­sis and the option of pe­dago­gi­cal elec­tives. Tho­se stu­dents wi­th high achie­ve­ment in the pro­gram­me will be ad­mit­ted in­to the trai­ning class and can then fi­nish wi­th the Con­cert Di­plo­ma. Af­ter two se­mes­ters stu­dents ha­ve the op­por­tu­ni­ty of transferring into the mas­ter class, and upon suc­cess­ful­ly pas­sing the exam, may fi­nish wi­th the Mas­ter Class Di­plo­ma. Performance cour­ses are avail­able for ac­cor­di­an, ear­ly mu­sic/pe­ri­od in­stru­ments, con­duc­ting (choir and or­chestra), voice/mu­si­cal thea­ter, gui­tar, jazz, church mu­sic, pia­no, com­po­si­ti­on, or­ches­tral in­stru­ments and or­gan.

The Mu­sic Teacher Di­plo­ma (Di­plom­mu­sik­leh­rers/Di­plom­mu­sik­leh­re­rin) (DL) is a degree for tho­se in­te­rested in em­pha­si­sing p­e­dago­gy. The p­e­dago­gi­cal sub­jects in­clu­de ac­cor­di­an, ear­ly mu­sic/pe­ri­od in­stru­ments, ele­men­ta­ry mu­sic pa­e­dago­gy (EMP), voice, gui­tar, jazz, pia­no, mu­sic theo­ry, or­ches­tral in­stru­ments and or­gan.

Additional, supplementary subjects for the DM or DL include digital music production, elemental music pedagogy (EMP), instrumental or vocal arts, jazz, and ear training.
