Guitar can be studied at the HfM Würzburg in a bachelor's degree program with artistic or with artistic-pedagogical orientation. Both study programs are oriented towards an individual curriculum for the students and thus do justice to the changing professional fields for the graduates of the music colleges. For example, it is possible to study historical plucked instruments (lute, baroque guitar, theorbo) or electric guitar as a supplementary instrument.

In addition to the weekly 90-minute individual lessons in the core subject, chamber music is an important part of the study program, and students can also gain experience playing in the ensembles for new and early music. Periodically, master classes supplement the instruction and broaden the perspective. Past guests have included Eduardo Fernandez, José Antonio Escobar, Marcin Dylla, Pablo Márquez and Xavier Diaz.

A significant part of the studies consists of artistic or comprehensive projects, in which the students are involved as much as possible in the conception and realization, e.g. theme concerts, excursions, summer schools, study days, master classes, etc.. For this purpose, the guitar department uses a regional and international network with regular partnerships.
